My Husband

As I woke this morning to the familiar smells and sounds coming from the kitchen, I couldn't help but be grateful that I have a husband that loves me and our children enough to make sure that they not only have breakfast(normally cooked) but that dinner is cooked for when I get home from work. Yep hubby does the cooking for the family and being trained as a commercial cook, we do eat some really yummy food!!

Our home life is not conventional but it works for us. My husband has lymphodema in both his legs and is on disability pension, so while he stays home I go to work.  He does the cooking and washing - both of the chores that I dislike the most.

As our lives get busy, we tend to take for granted the things around us, for me this includes my husband, I forget how much I rely on him, how much I need him there and how much he balances me. All the little things he does for me that may, to most, seem inconsequential, but make me reflect on how lucky I am, from remembering not just my birthday but our anniversary as well (no he is not romantic at all.. but he remembers after 19 years that is great!) to knowing what my favourite flower is right down to knowing how I prefer my beans at dinner.  Sometimes I think he knows me better than I know myself.

I tell him every morning that I love him and thank him at night for what he has done. I do this as much for myself as I do for him. I need that reminder to be thankful and to not take him for granted.

When I get home from work tonight, I will remember to tell him how grateful I am to have him in my life.
